Comment on How Louis Kelso Invented the ESOP by Cecile Betit https://employeeownedamerica.com/2019/01/07/how-louis-kelso-invented-the-esop/#comment-7 Mon, 07 Jan 2019 16:08:04 +0000 https://employeeownedamerica.com/?p=1185#comment-7 The Kelso Workshop at Rutgers this week makes this article an especially timely one. The helpful synthesis of events and players, several of whom continue to be involved in promoting ESOPs and capital ownership, brings the program’s underpinnings to life. Hopefully, the article will be broadly distributed to encourage owners looking for succession planning to consider an ESOP. Thank you for this well-written dynamic read.

Comment on United It Was Not by Cecile Betit https://employeeownedamerica.com/2018/11/27/united-it-was-not/#comment-6 Wed, 19 Dec 2018 16:37:13 +0000 https://employeeownedamerica.com/?p=1074#comment-6 Chris Mackin has been consistently ahead in the field in thinking of employee ownership at the grass roots and its potential within a company. HIs article on United in 1997 also looked at the importance of building an ownership culture and in a sense the developmental needs of employees to do that. Thank you for publishing this article.

Comment on The Most Democratic Midsize Company in America? by Bill Carris https://employeeownedamerica.com/2018/11/06/the-most-democratic-midsize-company-in-america/#comment-4 Thu, 08 Nov 2018 20:44:22 +0000 https://employeeownedamerica.com/?p=1012#comment-4 Excellent article! I’d like to add one thing though. The company purpose is: “To improve the quality of life for our growing corporate community”. I believe it is a major contributor to the values of Carris. This purpose also extends to the greater community, whether to customers, suppliers, or other communities Carris touches.

We use the motto “Customer driven – employee owned.”

Comment on A 100-Year-Old Company? SRC’s Amazing Wealth-Generating System by Bill Fotsch https://employeeownedamerica.com/2018/08/21/a-100-year-old-company-srcs-amazing-wealth-generating-system/#comment-3 Sat, 25 Aug 2018 11:57:54 +0000 https://employeeownedamerica.com/?p=804#comment-3 Great to see Jack / SRC being recognized as the good example of the results of Open-Book Management that they are, the term that was coined by John Case over 20 years ago. Fortunately today, we have many different examples of OBM success stories to learn from. Industry leaders, like Southwest Airlines, Capital One, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, ZCCM, BHP Billiton, and hundreds of private companies all practice their own versions of OBM, empowering employees to think and act like owners, driving and participating in the profitable growth of the company. Their engagement and business results speak for themselves, in some cases exceeding those of SRC, something I have seen first hand, having coached them on OBM. This 3 minute video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RJAEHPOxPQ&t=56s , created by Carlson Travel, describes their experience in their own words. These Forbes and Harvard Business Review articles provide more background: https://hbr.org/2018/01/more-than-a-paycheck
